Digital Zoom Independent from Optical Zoom
Digital zoom (along with its cousin keystone) traditionally has a bad name. However, it has the advantage of much finer granularity, literally down to the pixel level. It's preferable to have the digital zoom available to the user at _any_ optical zoom level, instead of activating it only when the optical zoom runs out of range.Just like blanking, it would be best to have the digital zoom settings saved alongside the optical lens settings for each lens memory position.
Reviewing
Having received a review unit of the Titan Noir Pro, I would say in its current state (without lens memory) it is not practical to be used with a wide aspect ratio screen. With a CIH (Constant Image Height) set up, one needs to be able to image the image size for content of different aspect ratios. The optical zoom adjustment is very coarse, and also shifts the image height when the image size is changed. A bug in the current firmware also distorts the image (unwarranted auto keystone which cannot be turned off). Digital zoom will solve these problems while maintaining the image density (pixels per inch).
